Packing Clay That Strengthens Pitcher's Mounds and Batter's Boxes

Pro's Choice Easy Mound is a packing clay built in layers into the spots on a ball field that take the most wear: around and in front of the pitching rubber, the batter's boxes and the catcher's station. Lay it in 2 in lifts over a dampened base, tamp each one firm, and cap it with infield mix, as the bag directs.

Why Fields Use Pro's Choice Easy Mound

  • Made for the high wear spots. Pitcher's mounds, batter's boxes and the catcher's station, per the bag.
  • Builds up in layers. Each 2 in lift is dampened and tamped so it bonds with the soil below.
  • Repairs in place. Sweep out divots, moisten, refill and tamp.

How to Install Easy Mound Packing Clay

  1. On the mound, remove the top 4 in of soil around and in front of the rubber. Remove 4 in of soil from the batter's boxes and the catcher's station. Make drainage holes so the dug out area cannot hold water like a bathtub.
  2. Dampen the excavated areas with water and let it soak in to form a bonding base with the existing soil. Apply a 2 in layer of packing clay.
  3. Tamp it firm, water lightly and let it soak in. Add another 2 in layer to bring it near grade and tamp firm. Repeat until you are within finished grade.
  4. Cover each area with a skin coat of infield mix and tamp again. Pro's Choice suggests two bags of its Select or Rapid Dry conditioner to absorb surface moisture.

Between games, lightly water the mound and batter's boxes and cover them with a tarp. If a tarp is not possible, keep a light coat of Pro's Choice infield conditioner over them to hold the right moisture, per the bag.

  • How many bags do I need? Pro's Choice does not publish a rate. Call us with the size of the mound and boxes.
  • Is this an infield conditioner? No. Easy Mound is the packing clay underneath; conditioner goes over the top.
